Dr. Dave Abel was born and raised in Pennsylvania, but he progressively migrated west; first to Idaho, and then to Alaska.
The Air Force originally brought him to Alaska as part of a four-year enlistment. He met his wife here in Alaska and has made Alaska his home.
Dr. Abel obtained his undergraduate degree at UAA and attended medical school at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in Washington. Residency allowed him to return to Anchorage, AK, and now he calls Soldotna home.
He and his wife have four boys who keep them busy. He loves biking, hiking, skiing, and camping, as well as quiet evenings reading with his family.

Alicia Barry

Alicia Barry
Accounting Clerk

My name is Alicia Barry, and I am the Accounting Clerk responsible for receipting at ABC Life Choices.  I was born and raised in British Columbia, Canada and moved here to Alaska after meeting my wonderful husband at a Christian university we both attended.  It is my gift to be a homeschooling mama to three amazing boys.
My husband and I have always felt called to serve the Lord in whatever way we can and in whatever direction He leads us.
Our first job in Alaska was as live-in house parents for teenage boys who had legal issues.
We also served in our church doing Sunday School, youth mission trips, and running youth group.
As our family expanded, we have moved out of some of those roles and into brand new ones and the Lord has grown us through each new experience.
I am excited to help support the mission of ABC Life Choices and be a part of their incredible team.
Becky Peters

Becky Peters
Executive Director

Raised in Washington state, my husband and I have lived in Alaska since 1998. We have three children who grew up here on the Kenai peninsula. I have a BA of Elementary Education from Grace College and served alongside my husband at Arctic Barnabas Ministries before working at ABC Life Choices. After home schooling our three kids, I volunteered at ABC for several months and then God called me to serve as Director here in August of 2020.

It is an honor to serve the Lord here at ABC. We get to demonstrate the love of God as we care for clients, offering them practical help, building relationship and  then getting many opportunities to share the truth of the gospel. God is using many of my life experiences and much of my story redemptively here at ABC Life Choices for which I am truly grateful.

Katherine Poppin
Administrative Assistant

I was raised in Kenai and Soldotna and attended the University of Alaska for the first two years of my college career. After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Communication from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, I worked as a Paralegal and Legal Secretary for many years in both large and small law firms on the west coast and in Hawaii. Then came a point where I had time and resources on my hands and I thought what better thing could I do than study about God. In 2016, I graduated from Multnomah Biblical Seminary with a Master’s in Christian Leadership. Since then, I have sought out volunteer and paid work where I can continue to use my administrative and organizing skills in ministry settings. This has led me to ABC Life Choices where I now fill the role of Administrative Assistant.

In her free time, Heather enjoys spending time with her growing family, helping out with her family’s construction business, as well as participating in the many outdoor activities that Alaska has to offer.

Jennifer Winans

Jennifer Winans
Accounting Assistant

I moved to Anchorage, Alaska with my family in 1975 and then to Kenai in 1979. After meeting in college and marrying, my husband Paul and I settled in Kenai in 1983.

Our son was born three years later and together we raised and homeschooled him here. We worship at Kenai Fellowship a Church of Christ. I started volunteering in 1996 at the center doing the receipting, then came on staff in my current position in 2020. There are so very many wonderful people who work with clients at the center! Not everyone is meant for that type of work and I am so very grateful God has provided a position here for me to serve.

Jennifer Wood

Jennifer Wood
Women's Services Manager

I am the Women’s Service Manager at ABC. I started volunteering in 2008, and came onboard as staff in 2020.  I am also a pastor’s wife, the mom of 5 grown children, and grandma to 13 precious grandchildren.

Many years ago when my children were still pretty young, I had a heart for serving at a pregnancy center.  I wanted to help women who were struggling with unplanned pregnancies.  It takes me a while sometimes to venture into the unknown, and so along with being a busy homeschooling mom I didn’t take the step to find a center at which to volunteer.  Jumping ahead several years with only two children left at home, I am searching for a local pregnancy center.  I couldn’t find it.  I really wanted to volunteer somewhere so I went to the hospital and got an application.  I decided to try one more time to find the pregnancy center.  I drove down the same road I had driven down before, and I finally found it!  God’s timing is everything, and His time for me was right then.

I love my work at ABC.  It isn’t always easy, but God gives little victories along the way to keep me encouraged that He can truly use me for His purpose in the lives of those that are hurting and need Him.
